Today, we are thrilled to announce that members of the FinOps Foundation and FinOps practitioners in Japan have collaboratively established the FinOps Foundation Japan Chapter. This exciting development marks a significant step in expanding the global FinOps movement and empowering organizations in Japan to optimize their cloud investments.
The FinOps Foundation is a Linux Foundation program (alongside organizations like the Cloud Native Computing Foundation) dedicated to advancing the discipline of FinOps through best practices, education, and standards. With a thriving community of over 23,000 individuals representing over 10,000 companies, the Foundation provides various individual and organizational training and certification programs and supports the development of FOCUS™, the industry’s first open-source standard for cloud billing data.
FinOps is a framework and cultural practice that maximizes the business value of the cloud. While widely adopted globally, awareness of FinOps in Japan remains relatively low, and Japanese-language resources are scarce.
J.R. Storment, Executive Director of the FinOps Foundation, shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter: “Collaboration is at the heart of FinOps, and the formation of this chapter exemplifies the power of community. We are excited to see Japanese practitioners contribute their unique perspectives and expertise to the FinOps Foundation.”
Key Initiatives of the FinOps Foundation Japan Chapter:
The newly established Japan Chapter will promote FinOps adoption in Japan and contribute to the Framework and standards developed by the global FinOps community. Operated by FinOps Foundation Member Organizations and their practitioners, the chapter will:
- Host meetups in Japan: Provide a forum for sharing information, exchanging ideas, and networking on FinOps.
- Translate documents into Japanese: Make key FinOps Foundation resources accessible to Japanese practitioners.
- Translate training materials into Japanese: Support the development of FinOps professionals in Japan with localized training.
The Japan Chapter invites all interested individuals and organizations to join the FinOps Foundation and contribute to developing FinOps best practices in Japan.
