CloudLinux, MariaDB, and Solace Systems Join the Organization

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 21, 2015 — The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced that CloudLinux, MariaDB, and Solace Systems will be joining the organization.

Linux dominates most of today’s IT infrastructure, from cloud computing to mobile and embedded development, web-scale computing and more. New Linux Foundation members, working together with numerous individuals, are critical to advancing Linux and open source software to support this massive, global technology foundation. These new corporate memberships, combined with The Linux Foundation’s individual membership drive underway through August 8, 2015, is making the effort to promote, protect and advance Linux and collaborative development stronger than ever.

More information about the newest Linux Foundation members:

CloudLinux develops products to make Linux secure, stable, and profitable. Its flagship product, CloudLinux OS, is the leading OS for hosting providers helping increase server density and security to reduce operating costs, lower churn and increase profits. Its fastest growing product, KernelCare, provides automated kernel security updates without reboots for most Linux distributions. With 2,500+ partners and customers, including LiquidWeb and Dell, and 60,000+ installations of CloudLinux products, the company combines unique expertise in the service provider business with in-depth technical knowledge of kernel development and open source.

“Because of the ongoing innovation and collaboration behind Linux, CloudLinux has expanded its core OS helping shared hosting companies resolve stability and density issues, to also helping enterprises do live kernel patch updates for all major Linux distributions,” said Igor Seletskiy, CEO at CloudLinux. “We’re excited to become Linux Foundation members and work directly with the community pushing Linux forward, while also helping us improve all our CloudLinux technologies.”

MariaDB Corporation is a provider of open source database solutions for SaaS, cloud and on-premise applications that require high availability, scalability and performance.  Built by the founder and core engineering team behind MySQL, MariaDB is the database that powers billions of users on sites like Google and Wikipedia. Moreover, MariaDB is the new “M” in LAMP, having displaced MySQL as the default database in the Red Hat and SUSE Linux distributions.  MariaDB is also included in Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Rackspace and other cloud stacks, and it is the database of choice for the IBM POWER8 Turbo LAMP stack.

“MariaDB has more than two million users globally and over 500 customers in more than 45 countries — most of whom are running Linux,” said Roger Levy, Vice President of Product Management at MariaDB. “The drive for increased innovation, massive scalability and high availability at a lower total cost of ownership is driving increased use of open source.  We’re looking forward to working more closely with The Linux Foundation to ensure enterprises benefit from the most secure, agile and scalable open source technologies available to handle today’s demanding, data-intensive applications.”

Solace Systems makes messaging middleware technology that efficiently moves information between distributed applications, devices and users to enable big data, cloud computing and the Internet of Things. Solace is expanding its involvement with The Linux Foundation through participation in the OpenMAMA project, which provides a high performance messaging API that interfaces with a variety of message-oriented middleware systems.

“Solace Systems is pleased to increase our commitment to The Linux Foundation and specifically the OpenMAMA project, which is at the forefront of innovation in the financial services community,” said Shawn McAllister, CTO at Solace Systems. “Our technology is well-suited to the demands of OpenMAMA-based market data distribution systems, and we’re confident this partnership will foster open source collaboration and greatly advance bank and trading systems.”

“We’re pleased to see such strong Linux Foundation membership growth among corporations large and small as well as countless individuals,” said Amanda McPherson, Chief Marketing Officer at The Linux Foundation. “The Linux Foundation is here to help our members make the most of their Linux investment, while growing the future of the platform through training, events, scholarships, networking, kernel mentoring and more.”
