Huawei Deepens its Investment in Linux and Open Source Software with Linux Foundation Platinum Membership

As key technologies are increasingly built collaboratively, global telecom leader increases commitment to Linux and open source


SEATTLE, LinuxCon/ContainerCon/CloudOpen, August 17, 2015 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced Huawei is becoming a Platinum member of the organization. This is the highest level of investment at The Linux Foundation and signals Huawei’s increased commitment to Linux, open source and collaborative development.   

“Huawei stands out as an industry innovator and leader. Its contributions to Linux and open source software have made today’s technologies better and ensure that future technologies will thrive,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. “We’re looking forward to working even more with Huawei and know our efforts will be maximized with the company’s support.”

Huawei is a longtime contributor to open source software and collaborative development and previously was a Gold member of The Linux Foundation. In addition to its active contributions to the Linux Kernel and KVM, Huawei is also a founding member of various Linux Foundation Collaborative Projects, such as OPNFV, Open Container Initiative, Cloud Native Computing Foundation, IO Visor and Kinetic Open Storage Project and contributor and member to CloudFoundry and OpenDaylight. The company has been at the forefront of new open technologies.

As a Platinum member of The Linux Foundation, Huawei will gain a seat on the Board of Directors and help guide the organization as the role of open source and collaboration increases in building new technologies. The company joins other Platinum members represented on the board that include Fujitsu, HP, IBM, Intel, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm and Samsung.

The work we do with the Linux and open source community is a strategic way we build Huawei ICT software infrastructure,” said Mr. Ti Gong, the President of Central Software Institute, Huawei. “Our commitment to The Linux Foundation is a commitment to the industry to always be pushing the limits of innovation, and be collaborating with various partners in the ecosystem.”
