Leading open source conference includes technical content, bonus tutorials, a 25th anniversary of Linux party, networking events and other community activities
SAN FRANCISCO, September 15, 2016 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit advancing professional open source management for mass collaboration, today announced a wide variety of onsite experiences taking place at LinuxCon + ContainerCon Europe October 4-6 in Berlin, Germany.
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Linux, which LinuxCon + ContainerCon will honor with an event celebrating the milestone on the evening of October 5 at The Great Orangery at Charlottenburg Palace. Additionally, a reception for speakers, sponsors and press is planned for October 4 at House of Weekend, immediately following the reception and sponsor showcase onsite at the conference, where all attendees are invited to network and check out sponsor products and technologies. LinuxCon + ContainerCon will also feature bonus content on top of the more than 185 technical sessions for attendees who would like in-depth training on specific topics. Bonus content on October 7 includes:
· FOSSology–Hands On Training: A one-day course examining FOSSology, an open source license compliance software system and toolkit. This course will be valuable to anyone involved in open source management, including operational and legal executives, software development managers, and open source program managers and developers. The training session requires a basic understanding of software licensing. (Additional fee required)
· Fundamentals of Professional Open Source Management: This full-day course from Greg Olson and Bill Weinberg from the Linux Foundation Open Source Consulting team, will teach fundamental concepts by using real-world examples. (Additional fee required)
· Docker 101 Lab: Bruno Cornec, Linux distinguished technologist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, will provide attendees with a deeper look into the Docker ecosystem. He will cover how to download existing containers from the Docker Trusted Registry to start building a container using Dockerfile, explain basic Docker commands and examine other containerized applications such as ownCloud.
· Orchestrating Containers in Production at Scale with Docker Swarm: Jerome Petazzoni, senior engineer and tinkerer extraordinaire at Docker, will lead a hands-on tutorial providing insight into advanced Docker concepts, strategies for deploying and scaling applications using Docker Swarm and other open source tools of the Docker ecosystem.
· CoreOS: Hyperscale Infrastructure: Brandon Philips of CoreOS will give an overview of the components available to build Google-style infrastructure, including CoreOS, etcd, Kubernetes and rkt.
· Heat, cloud-init and cloud-config: OpenStack Orchestration Deep Dive: Florian Haas of hastexo will lead a workshop to introduce OpenStack Heat, cloud-init and the hidden gems in cloud-config. Attendees will learn how to deploy Heat orchestration templates, optimize instance configuration with cloud-init and cloud-config, and customize individual instances.
· Kubernetes Hands-On Lab: Led by Rafael Benevides of Red Hat, this hands-on lab will show how a current Docker skill set can be easily mapped to Kubernetes concepts and commands.
· Persistent Memory Programming with NVML: Pawel Lebioda and Tomasz Kapela of Intel will host this working session to introduce the open source Linux NVM (Non Volatile Memory) Library. This library is intended to address the main issues of persistent memory programming, while providing developers with tools to ease persistent memory testing.
· Comparing Container Orchestration Tools: Neependra Kumar Khare of CloudYuga will lead a workshop to compare the pros and cons of orchestration tools such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Mesos Marathon and Nomad used to deploy containers in production.
This year’s event will also host additional activities to complement technical content and keynote speaking sessions. These activities offer the opportunity for like-minded individuals to get to know one another better in informal environments.

· Women in Open Source Networking Lunch: All LinuxCon + ContainerCon attendees who identify as women are invited to lunch, sponsored by SanDisk, for the opportunity to connect with other women in technology and build a stronger network. Advance registration is required.
