SAN FRANCISCO — June 21, 2017 — Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of the industry-standard platform for cloud applications, closed a record-setting Silicon Valley Summit, and today announced the call for papers for the 2017 European Summit will close on June 23. The 2017 European Summit will take place in Basel, Switzerland, from October 11-12 at the Congress Center Basel.

With support from Platinum Sponsors Google, SAP, IBM and Pivotal, Cloud Foundry Silicon Valley Summit 2017 set new attendance records and attracted media coverage in more than 365 unique articles with a social media audience reach of nearly 18 million impressions. News outlets attending the conference included Container Journal, IDG, InfoQ, Reuters, TechCrunch, ZDNet and more.

The Summits come amid explosive growth of Cloud Foundry worldwide with 2,400 contributors since inception, 51,000 commits in the last 12 months alone, 70,000 people participating in global community events and 64 total members making Cloud Foundry the industry leader in the growing cloud application platform market. According to internal research, Cloud Foundry has 35 percent of the total market across all deployments. Cloud Foundry’s total market value is approximately $2.8 billion, rising to $5.25 billion in a few years, according to market research firm Gartner and Cloud Foundry Foundation global survey research.

In addition to officially rolling out its Cloud Foundry Certified Developer (CFCD) program — with 5,000 developers already trained — the Foundation also announced that Microsoft had joined as a member, bringing all of the world’s largest public cloud providers together into the global initiative with only one exception. The Foundation also announced that Kubo, a project to enable deployment and ongoing management of the Kubernetes container orchestration tool, had joined as an incubating project, with initial committers from Google and Pivotal.

Last year, more than 700 businesses, developers and vendors from across Europe gathered at the sold out Summit in Frankfurt to share best practices and hear senior executives from leading organizations like Allianz, Bosch, Fidelity, Siemens, Volkswagen, Rakuten and the Dutch Government describe how Cloud Foundry has helped them build and deploy robust, resilient and flexible cloud-native applications across multiple cloud platforms.

“The increase in size and relevance each year for the Cloud Foundry Summits show that they continue to be a great place for our community to catch up on the latest advances in the cloud-native ecosystem, hear about real-world use cases and deployments, and share ideas and best practices,” said Abby Kearns, executive director, Cloud Foundry Foundation. “This year was no different in Silicon Valley, and we look forward to providing developers and IT managers an invaluable experience in Switzerland.”

Attendees will join other developers and CIOs to gain first-hand access to Cloud Foundry roadmaps, training and tutorials, and to see how others are using Cloud Foundry to support continuous innovation and application portability. Attendees will also have access to Cloud Foundry Developer Certification (CFDC) at Summit. Performance-based, community-based and independent of any distribution vendor, Cloud Foundry Developer Certification is the guaranteed way to demonstrate cloud skills and allow developers to be highly productive while working on top of Cloud Foundry.

Cloud Foundry is an open source technology backed by the largest technology companies in the world, including Cisco, Dell EMC, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Google, IBM, Pivotal, SAP and SUSE, and is being used by leaders in manufacturing, telecommunications and financial services. Only Cloud Foundry delivers the velocity needed to continuously deliver apps at the speed of business. Cloud Foundry’s container-based architecture runs apps in any language on your choice of cloud — Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, OpenStack, SoftLayer, VMware vSphere, and more. With a robust services ecosystem and simple integration with existing technologies, Cloud Foundry is the modern standard for mission critical apps for global organizations.
