SODA Foundation、新しい投資とスコープの拡張 ー データの自律化に対するニーズの高まりに対応

2020年6月29日 サンフランシスコ発 ー オープンソースを通じた大規模イノベーションの実現に取り組む非営利団体であるLinux Foundationは、SODA Foundation (以前のOpenSDS) が、データの自律化に対するニーズの高まりをサポートするために、オープンソース ソフトウェアと標準の両方を含むように拡張することを発表しました。SODA Foundationは、エッジからコア、クラウドに至るまでデータ モビリティのためのオープンソースで統合された自律型のデータ管理フレームワークをホストしています。

プレミア メンバーには、China Unicom、富士通、Huawei、NTTコミュニケーションズ、トヨタ自動車が名を連ねます。そのほかのメンバーとして、China Construction Bank Fintech、Click2Cloud、GMOペパボ、IIJ、MayaData、LinBit、Scality、ソニー、Wipro、Yahoo! JAPANが含まれます。

拡張の一環として、China UnicomはS3互換オブジェクト ストレージYIGプロジェクトをSODA Foundationに寄付します。YIGは、コミュニティ アウトリーチ、コラボレーション、導入を通じて成長をサポートすることで、データおよびストレージ プロジェクトのエコシステムを促進するように設計されたSODAインキュベーター プログラムを通じてSODA Foundationに参加するプロジェクトの第一弾になります。

また、SODA Foundationは、クラウド ネイティブなどに対応したオープンな統合データ フレームワーク ソフトウェア「Faroe」バージョン1.0のリリースを発表しました。ブロック/ファイル/オブジェクト ストレージ、マルチクラウド  データ コントロール、テレメトリ、異種ストレージ間のリソース管理をサポートすることで、データサイロを排除し、統合されたデータ管理を提供し、オンプレミスとマルチクラウド間のシームレスなデータ モビリティを可能にします。またFaroeは、実験的な機能としてContainer Storage Interface (CSI) ストレージ プラグアンドプレイを備えており、SODAでCSIストレージを抽象化することでKubernetesストレージ管理を簡素化します。

SODA FoundationのチェアマンでありFutureweiのクラウド ソリューション担当VP&CTOであるSteven Tan氏は、次のように述べています。

クラウド、オンプレミス、現在増えつつあるエッジ間でのデータ移動により、データ管理はより複雑になります。また、データ管理をサポートするテクノロジーの増加で、データ ストレージの想定外のサイロなど、さらなる困難が生じています。データのモビリティと自律化がこれまで以上に重要になる時代に、管理を簡素化し、ストレージプールを統合し、エンドユーザーのためのイノベーションを加速できるベンダー ニュートラルなフォーラムとプラットフォームを提供することが非常に重要です。SODA Foundationは、全体的なデータ モビリティと自律化のためのプラットフォーム開発を統合することにより、サイロを削減することを目指しています。

Linux Foundationのシニア バイス プレジデントでプロジェクト担当ゼネラル マネージャーであるMike Dolanは、次のように述べています。
